Principles of Science (3-5)

Service Description

8, 1-hour classes total Class Dates: 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31. 11/7, 11/14, 11/21 Course Description: Principles of Science will introduce and explore foundational scientific concepts relating to biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. We will encourage curiosity and meaningful discussions to help students develop a lifelong passion for science. Through fun and engaging lessons, activities, and experiments, students will develop a more complex understanding of the natural world and prepare to conquer higher-level science courses. Course Topics: Biology: Biotic and Abiotic factors, Cells and Organelles, Genetics, Cell Division Environmental Science: Cellular Respiration, Photosynthesis, Evolution, Natural Selection Chemistry: Energy and Matter, Thermodynamics, Atoms, the Periodic Table of Elements Physics: Laws of Motion, Inertia, Gravity and more! Prerequisites: Students should have approached, met, or exceeded standards in science at their regular school in the previous school year. Materials: Computer with Zoom, notebook, pencils, and erasers. Additional materials will be communicated through email. No need for purchases. Original curriculum created by Kandace Bui & Julia Wood. Instructors: Chloe is a senoir at North Creek High School. In her free time, she is an avid tennis player and loves baking, as well as hanging out with her friends. She is a current member of HOSA and UNICEF, and the treasurer of Mihua, a non-profit organization. She loves any science-related topic, and looks forward to meeting the students of the Principles of Science class! Hima is a senoir at North Creek High School. She is the current treasurer for her school’s HOSA and a member of FBLA and UNICEF. Outside of school, she does karate and hapkido and is on her school’s badminton team. In her free time, she enjoys playing table tennis, skiing, and spending time with family and friends. She has experience tutoring and teaching students in math, and looks forward to teaching Principles of Science this fall!

Missing more than 50% of the regular classes without prior notice will result in 1 strike. If you reach 2 strikes, you will be prevented from registering for classes in the future. To cancel your class registration, please email classes@missioninspired.org at least 3 days before the start of the class.
